Phillies Mets BaseballWhen Bruntlett made his amazing unassisted triple play, Iron Hill regular and beer geek extrordinaire Stephen Lyford told me I had to make a Belgian Tripel and name it after Bruntlett.  Well guess what?  I already had one in the tank, now I had a name for it too.  Tonight  at 5 pm  Preston Elliot of the preston1WMMR Morning Show will come by to help us celebrate Bruntlett’s feat and the premier of the beer we brewed (er named anyway) in tribute.  Unassisted Tripel is a traditional abbey style ale.  Golden in color and medium bodied but strong and very complex.  The use of a classic belgian yeast gives this beer a big spicy and fruity nose.  Careful, this one rings in at 9%

Me pouring a very special bottle of Barleywine

Me pouring a very special bottle of Barleywine

Just last Saturday we had our first mug club party.  It was a hit (this guy liked it!) and much more well attended than even I’d expected.  We gave away all but four (all size small) of the 100 T-shirts we gave out as gifts.  I was happy with how the firken of “Entirely Inappropriate” turned out. Not much of the Belgian yeast character came through but

you can bet the American hop character did!  I thought the Cherry Vanilla Porter would be the hit of the show, but the firken actually kicked in about 45 minutes.  A lot of people have been asking about the Cherry Vanilla Porter and if we’d do it again.  The answer is yes.  I’ve already ordered the vanilla beans.  Unfortunately we can only make small quantities at a time.  The juice is

very concentrated and will ferment once the yeast hits it.  That mean’s the yeast will eat up all of the flavor we want you to enjoy.  (It can also mean exploding kegs.)  So it’s important that this beer doesn’t sit around once its made.  Speaking of cherry juice, my lady the beer lass, just happened to be out in Michigan on the day of the mug club party and she paid a visit to the orchard where I got the juice to do some cherry QC for me.  I’ve got a picture of her and Jim King himself here.  Anyhow, thanks to everyone for coming out, I had a great time.  We’ll be doing another one around the holidays, keep checking your e-mail!

Cheers,

Chris

Day in the Life Head Brewer 14

Photo by Dennis Mc Donald, Burlington County Times

The Burlington County Times was in last week to spend a day working with me to see what a day in the life of a brewer is like.  The piece ran in yesterday’s County and Region section.  You can read the article by Kristen Coppock  here.

The photographer, Dennis Mc Donald put together a very well-crafted slide show overlain with some audio from an interview we did.  Check it out here. Most of you don’t know this but shortly before I began my career as a brewer I had graduated from Syracuse with a newspaper degree.  I spent my first two years as a photo major and so I really appreciate good photography when I see it.  Dennis coincidentally graduated from the same school (Newhouse).  Thanks guys, nice work!
