It’s finally here! Monday evening at 5 pm we’ll be tapping the beer that Tom, Vince and I brewed at the DuPont brewery on our trip to Belgium. Alongside the Speciale Belge, we’ll be serving some like-minded farmhouse beers from both sides of the collaboration. The complete list is below my signature. Of course we’ll offer a sampler of all five of the draft beers. See you Monday!
| The farmhouse celebration line-up
Belœil (Brasserie DuPont) has a rich white meringue head and a beautiful hazy amber red color. The funky Dupont yeast announces itself but is laced with herbs, biscuit, nectarine, blood orange and a mineral edge. The warming finish has notes of wood and spice, toasted sesame, and green apple. It combines the best of a dry brown ale and a strong Saison. 8.5% abv
Avril (Brasserie DuPont) Bières de Table are not the heavy hitters Belgium is so famous for—but are central to Belgian beer culture because they are how Belgians learn to appreciate beer. They are typically enjoyed with home-cooked meals at the family dining table. Avril is aromatic like fresh bread, full in the mouth and light on the finish. It is exceptionally flavorful given its low alcohol. Eminently sessionable. 3.5% abv
Speciale Belge (Brasserie DuPont and Iron Hill) combines the talent of master brewer Olivier Dedeycker of Brasserie DuPont with the expertise of our own Chris LaPierre, Tom Peters of Monk’s Café and Barley Legal homebrewer Vince Masciandaro. This is a sessionable yet complex Belgian blonde ale with subtle hints of peat smoked malt. 6.8% abv
Biere de Garde (Iron Hill)
A classic French farmhouse beer. Amber –colored and brewed with lager yeast at elevated temperatures to bring out malt accents with slight fruit and spice notes. 7.0% abv
Saison (Iron Hill)
A classic Belgian-style farmhouse ale; unfiltered, bright and light-bodied. The yeast gives an earthy, fruity and spicy character with a refreshing finish. 7.0% abv
Saison Dupont (Brasserie DuPont) is a wonderful straw color with a dense creamy head. The nose is alive, like fresh raised bread, estery with citrus and spice notes. Full-bodied and malty, it sparkles on the palate and finishes with a zesty hop and citrus attack. 7.0%
Available in 750 ml bottles only.
