12/21/2010  |  Sorachi Ace and More…

Here is an update on what we’ve been up to in the brewery.  I brewed a 100 percent Sorachi Ace hopped Pale Ale the other day that i just might marry!  For those of you who haven’t tried it, Sorachi Ace is a Japanese hop that has a crazy lemon, citrus, earthy character to it.  It is one of the coolest hop varieties i have ever used.  The beer is medium bodied, 7 percent alcohol and has all the flavors of the Sorachi Ace hop.  I’m hoping to have this on tap by Jan. 14th, and the 13th for mug club members.  Today we are brewing Abbey Dubbel which will be on tap in late January.  The final nugget of information i have, is that i am proud to announce that we FINALLY have our cask line up and running!  The first cask we put on was Anvil Ale, a traditional British Ale that is the PERFECT for cask considering Britain was where cask beer originated.  We are staying busy, but we are making some time to drink delicious beer as well.  I hope you are as well!

Cheers,

V

Hey Everybody,

Two quick bits of information; 1.  Russian Imperial Stout (yaaaaaay!) will be on tap at 5 p.m. this Friday the 3rd., as well as this weeks Cask.  2.  I was recently asked what this weeks Cask will be.  I will now answer that question with another question.  What do these two pictures equal?

If you guessed “Candy Cane Porter”, as Ed McMahon would say, “You are correct Sir!”

I just wanted to take a moment to say “thank you”.  I have met so many great people while working for Iron Hill and have gained a ton of friends while brewing at our North Wales location.  I appreciate every one of you who have been kind enough to stop in and say “hi”, share a beer with me, and a couple laughs.  I’m thankful for the opportunity to share my passion for beer with you all, and even more thankful for the friendships i’ve gained.  I hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving.  Thank You.

Sincerely,

Vince

smaller fitAfter we successfully filled a 125 pound pumpkin with an entire 1/2 keg of Imperial Pumpkin Porter, we will have one last Hoorah.  Bob the head brewer at our Media location and his curly-haired assistant Kevin are bringing some sort of pumpkin cask to North Wales for a cask challenge this Friday the 29th at 5 p.m.  I say some sort of cask because Bob did not tell anybody what he is bringing up, so we affectionately named his beer “Bob’s Super Secret Surprise Beer Fun Time!”  North Wales will be tap a cask of Vanilla Bean Pumpkin Ale, which will be the last of any Pumpkin Ale we will have for this season.  At least we are going out with a bang.  Be here early, i have a feeling both casks are going to go quickly.  Hopefully North Wales kicks first though!lol  See you Friday.

Hey everybody.  I just wanted to update everyone on what’s been going on in the brewery lately.  We have been blowing through casks of Pumpkin beer during our Five Friday’s events.  The support has been amazing for these off the wall beers.  Some of you have been here for three Friday’s in a row trying the different variations of Pumpkin Ale and I cannot thank you enough.  This week we will be tapping the largest pumpkin I can find and pouring Pumpkin Imperial Porter out of it.  We had a blast doing this last year, and hopefully we do not crack the pumpkin and spill beer everywhere (I’m not making any promises though!).  We also have Northern English Brown Ale in a fermenter, and Belgian Tripel.  I can’t wait to put both of those beers on tap.  I LOVE the Fall season, especially the beers we brew during it!  I hope to see you soon.

Category: Uncategorized  |  Posted by: Vince  |  Add Comment

I have been getting requests for Pumpkin Ale since last years batch kicked and we are 3 days away from tapping a cask of it!  This Friday at 5 p.m. Kyle (Karl, to some of you in on the joke.  If you’re not in on it, just ask Kyle and he will tell you the story as to why his nickname is Karl.) but i digress…..Kyle and I will tap the cask right at 5 p.m. and we will be posted up at the bar and ready to responsibly imbibe.

Also, HUGE congratulations to Bob Barrar the head brewer at our Media location.  Bobby brought home two gold medals from the Great American Beer Festival.  A gold for Russian Imperial Stout, and a gold for Pig Iron Porter.  Take a bow Bob, YOU ARE THE MEDAL MACHINE!

See you Friday.

Your Brewers,

Vince and Kyle (Karl)
