9. TROEG’S BREWING COMPANY, HARRISBURG, PA
Scratch 34: Tim’s Belgian Brown. Tim Mayhew’s take on his favorite beer style. Scratch #34 packs a malty aroma suggesting raisins with hints of chocolate and caramel. On your taste buds, the raisin flavor
continues along with traces of dark rum and subtle spice provided by the Westmalle yeast. It finishes with a slight hop bitterness. We chose to bottle condition TBB as Tim wanted a near-champagne carbonation
for this beer. However, yeast does what it does, and in this case, it crapped out before finishing. Even after Tim spent one evening reinvigorating the yeast (that means he shook the hell out of 180 cases
of beer for 30 seconds each), the beer still would not finish and a decision had to be made. Always innovating, Tim and the brewers dumped as many bottles as possible into a wood barrel, and we will
await the surprise ending. For now, enjoy Scratch #34 on draft and stay tuned for the complete story. ABV: 7.8%.

10. DEVIL’S BACKBONE BREWING COMPANY, ROSELAND, VA

Tripel Threat: Fermented with proprietary Belgian yeast strain and brewed using imported Continental malt, hopped with Spalt and Goldings, and very lightly spiced with freshly toasted and ground
coriander. It is light golden in color, full-bodied, fruity, and very strong. Aromas of barley malt, orange blossoms and a hint of coriander first greet the nose, then carry through to the palate. special Belgian ale strain, and then add more Sorachi Ace hops postfermentation. After the dry-hopping, the beer emerges with a bright spicy lemongrass/lemon zest aroma backed by a wonderfully clean malt
flavor. From here we’ve taken it through 100% bottle re-fermentation with Champagne yeast, giving it fine pin-point carbonation and a beautiful pillowy foam. ABV: 6.5%.

21. BROOKLYN BREWING COMPANY, BROOKLYN, NY
Local One: In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color
you’ll find an alluring aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors. Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation,
a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth. ABV: 9% .

22. Manayunk Brewing Company, Philadelphia, PA
Yunker’s Nocturnum: The Belgian inspired ale series continues with our Belgian dark strong ale. A delicate fruit character from our Belgian yeast strain combines with numerous dark specialty malts to
create flavors of plum, raisin, and fig. Both strong and malty, this mahogany colored ale could be the perfect elixir for a cold winter night. 9.5%ABV.
