Ommegang 2009 Recap

Ommegang 2009 has come and gone. Sigh. Best Festival ever! As ususal Iron Hill had a HUGE group of revelers out for this camp-and-drink-a-thon. First off, the site is just beautiful. Everyone should make the trip at some point to Brewery Ommegang even if it’s just to see the place. The brewery staff’s hospitality is first rate.

We arrived on Friday and set up our ‘Compound’ including full featured camp kitchen and grill. By the time we’d arrived Jeff from Ithaca Brewing already had the hot tub set up!!! What a guy! We skipped the Friday night beer dinner this year. Tickets were $150. They were worth it…we just didn’t have the quan for all 60 of our people to eat like that. So it goes. We survived by drinking almost 6 entire kegs of beer! Now, we had some help on that one for sure, but I was still pretty amazed since no one really seemed to be out of control. I am so pround of my crew.  Scottie V. from Captain Lawrence teamed up with us this year to get everyone fed on Saturday night by bringing an entire 250 pound hog and a roaster.  We took turns gawking at the iced down pig all Friday night and throughout most of the day on Saturday. MMMMMMM.

Saturday was fest day and we all woke up a little foggy but the weather was killer. A bunch of people headed into town with us for a quick dip at the local Swimmin’ Hole and into the fest we went. There were a few less brewers this year and all of the beer was being poured by Official New York State Certified Volunteers. We had to get and give tickets for tastes. I am not really sure what that does to control consumption…anyway apparently someone complained last year about unruly behavior and the Staties were all over the poor Ommegang folks. Damn the Man! (I’ll take off my tinfoil hat now).

What a great time. More soon including:  Ghost stories video, Bikers, Kolsare.
