05/30/2008 | Good News, Bad News
Well it’s Friday here in Iron Hill Land and I’ve got some great news to start out with, our Belgian Wit is on tap and it is killer!
I just had a few sips with my bagel. That’s a nice way to start out the day for sure. In case you aren’t aware we are running an entire summer of wheat beers this year as part of our Summer of Weisse promotion.
The official kickoff is Monday June 2nd, but we’re getting a little head start with the Wit Beer. Here is a photo of the Wit a couple of weeks ago when it was fermenting like crazy. I never get tired of seeing that!
Now the bad news. The bottle shop at F.X. Matt Brewery in Utica, New York caught fire last night. You can read the whole story here.
The Matt brewery is home to some of our favorite brands including the Saranac line of beers. It is also the location the brews a majority of the bottled product for The Brooklyn Brewery. I am happy to report after talking with my friend Keith Miller at the brewery that everyone got out uninjured. It looks like the packaging facility will be a total loss.
The Matt Brewery was founded by an incredible man named F.X. who fought tirelessly throughout his life for small brewers. We wish the Matt crew the best of luck in rebuilding and wish to once again extend our gratitude for everything they have done for our industry. Keep your heads up gang.
