Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first. Although a gripping reminder that life is unpredictable, we would suspect a sweet tooth following this life philosophy. But if indulging in a rich double fudge brownie could help make life more certain for a child with cancer, wouldn’t you choose dessert first?
Each year in the U.S. there are an estimated 15,780 children between the time of birth and age 19 who are diagnosed with cancer. Approximately 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday.
Home brewers Kevin Finn and Mark Edelson, as well as restauranteur Kevin Davies, are not just the founders of Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant – they are also passionate supporters of children’s cancer research. They were initially made aware of the impact of children’s cancer from Mark’s wife, Maureen, who is a pediatric oncologist. Thirteen years later we are proud to continue our support of CureSearch for Children’s Cancer and their mission: Research is the key to the cure.
Since 2004, Iron Hill Brewery has raised $266,983 for children’s cancer research, roughly $24,000 earned this year alone. These funds are being raised in the form of decadent double fudge brownies paired with vanilla ice cream, atop a pool of peanut butter caramel and chocolate sauces and, of course, whipped cream. For every purchase of this Triple Chocolate Hill signature dessert, Iron Hill donates $0.75 to CureSearch for Children’s Cancer.
The money earned for CureSearch this year has funded a variety of initiatives, for example:
- One week of lifesaving research by CureSearch Young Investigators
- Three weeks of Acceleration Initiative research
- Essential library supplies for CureSearch researchers
- Four months of research for a novel cell-based immunotherapy for Acute Myeloid Leukemia
- An entire CureSearch Community Impact Award, allowing local hospitals to provide programs and resources that support families in coping with cancer diagnosis
So, next time you are craving something sweet, dive in to a blissful chocolatey, peanut buttery confection and make a difference with every bite. #TripleChocolateCure
